MEET THE COSMIC ARTIST
When Relic was 7 years old, he was diagnosed with scoliosis. At first, his pediatrician suggested a “wait and see” approach to determine whether his spine would straighten on its own, but his family decided to chart a different course. They sought a second opinion and soon launched their mission to Shriners Children’s Shreveport. Upon arrival, Relic climbed aboard the rocket ship–themed EOS imaging system, where the imaging team captured a stellar shot of his spine. With a clear path forward, he was fitted with a brace to wear 23 hours a day to help guide his growth and straighten his spine. Through bracing and physical therapy, Relic’s curve began to straighten, showing remarkable progress. Today, he makes regular return missions to Shriners Children’s Shreveport so the team can monitor his spine as he grows and help keep his trajectory right on course.
